Cookie, the 12-year old narrator, tells the story of her older sister's mental breakdown.  Cookie's verses tell her story -- the story of her life at school, her life in her family, her experiences with friends and boys -- as well as her thoughts about her beloved older sister, who becomes hospitalized early in the book. This intense, first-person narrative gives a very intimate look at a family dealing with mental illness.
