Chinese New Year’s Dragon

by
Rachel Sing

A young Chinese girl and her family prepare for Lunar New Year by cleaning their home, cooking a number of special dishes, and giving out red envelopes (hongbao) filled with money. The coming year is a Year of the Dragon, so the girl’s grandmother tells her about the importance of dragons in China. At midnight, the girl has a vision of herself flying over ancient China on the back of a dragon while watching the new year festivities unfold.
