Esio Trot Reading Comprehension Packet
Reading comprehension packet and answer key for:
Esio Trot by Roald Dahl.
Esio Trot is a short silly story about a man who plays an elaborate "tortoise switching" game in order to win the affection of his downstairs neighbor. In true Roald Dahl style, the story is off-beat and quirky, but funny and interesting. The book is short and contains a lot of pictures. The plot is silly but clever and easy to follow. It's a great book for somewhat reluctant readers or for students who have trouble following (or staying focused on) longer books. The questions for the book help students follow the general plot and also push students to think about the moral implications of the "all's well that ends well" kind of trick that the main character plays in the book.
Reading level: 5th grade. This book is listed as a 5th grade book largely due to vocabulary and sentence structure. The book can definitely be read by younger students, but they may need help with some words and some British phrasing.
Themes: love, pets, tricks.
Audience: This is a thin book with a lot of illustrations. It looks like an easier book than it is. So, it's a great book for reluctant readers or students who are discouraged by long books.
