Synonyms and Antonyms
A synonym is a word that means exactly the same as, or very nearly the same as, another word.
For example, "beautiful" is a synonym of "gorgeous."
The flowers are beautiful.
The flowers are gorgeous.
Both of these sentences use different words that tell the reader that the flowers are pretty.
Examples of synonyms:
Hop $\rightarrow$ Jump Funny $\rightarrow$ Silly Cry $\rightarrow$ Sob |
An antonym is a word that means the opposite of another word.
For example, "love" is an antonym of "hate."
I love the rain.
I hate the rain.
Examples of antonyms:
Good $\rightarrow$ Bad Ugly $\rightarrow$ Pretty Big $\rightarrow$ Small |
