“My New Mom and Me” is a picture book about adoption and diversity.  The story is told from the point of view of a puppy who has just been adopted by a cat. In the beginning, the puppy is nervous about living with his new mom. He notices that they look different from one another, and he tries to fix it by painting stripes on his body like his new mom. But as his new mom washes the stripes off, she tell him that she likes their differences, and soon the puppy likes them, too. Over the course of the book, the new mom plays with the puppy, takes care of him, and sometimes even makes him mad. But the puppy learns that it’s okay, because she’s learning to be his new mom, and he’s learning to be her new son. And together, they are learning to be a family.
