Hate that Cat

Summary:

Hate that Cat (and its companion book Love that Dog) are unique because they are written in verse. The story follows a kid as he writes journal entries (some of which respond to his teacher's direct feedback and his prior work) about a cat that he tries to help. The book is sweet and funny and the narrator is endearing.  The book reads quickly, because it is in verse.  But, also requires more critical thinking than a lot of books because the narrative is spare and we don't see the teacher's feedback but rather have to infer it from the narrator's response. The rhymes and meter of the story can be helpful for students who sometimes struggle with the process of reading.
