Word Problems: Multiplication (Multi-Digit)
Description: This packet helps students learn to read word problems and use multidigit multiplication to solve the problems. Word problems give students practice recognizing key words that indicate multiplication (e.g., altogether, in all, how many, how much, etc.). All problems use multidigit multiplication by 2 digits.
Solve the word problems. Please show all of your work. Use labels in your answers.
Simple: There are 28 boats. If each boat can hold 49 people, how many people in total do all the boats hold?
Advanced: There are 480 trash bins. If each trash bin holds 77 tons of garbage, how much garbage do the trash bins hold altogether?
Students should be able to read at grade level and know how to multiply multidigit numbers to be able to complete these word problems independently.
