SAT Bootcamp
After several years of colleges and universities largely going test-optional, many are bringing back the SAT/ACT requirement. The University of California and California State University systems remain test-blind (due to a court decision) and many schools are still test-optional, but students applying for private or out-of-state colleges and universities should consider putting SAT back into their college preparation calendar.
All students now take a digital SAT, using a laptop or Chromebook and the format has changed quite a bit since the pre-pandemic years.
This SAT Bootcamp accomplishes several critical SAT goals:
- It provides students with a baseline score. Some have no idea how they will do on the SAT or if they need prep. We start with a diagnostic test and figure out what everyone needs to improve upon.
- It teaches students all of the critical rules, skills, and strategies for the new SAT. Students will learn:
- Strategies for narrowing down vocabulary options (even when they do not know all of the words).
- Strategies to hone in on the precise question they should focus on for reading comprehension questions.
- How to approach the new research based questions.
- The 8-10 core grammar rules that the new SAT tests.
- The 2-3 core geometry skills that the new SAT leans on.
- The 2-3 pre-algebra skills that SAT consistently tests.
- The 10-12 core algebra skills that the new SAT emphasizes.
- It has students take a second SAT exam, so they can implement their new skills and strategies and assess how much work they still want to do.
Practice is key to raising SAT scores. No weeklong course will get students all of the way through their SAT prep journey, but with one course, you can save a lot on tutoring by covering all of the main lessons and strategies. Students who want to continue prepping can then set up individualized tutoring (with us or somewhere else to fine tune those skills and strategies and achieve their goal scores.
